Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We’re rounding the final corner of week two here in Olympia. We continue our committee work and receiving public testimony on the bills brought before us. Already, over 1,000 bills have been introduced this session. It’s still a little early in the game to know what good and bad policies will filter through our committees, and ultimately to the House floor for votes. I’ll keep you posted.
I’ll be focusing on three key priorities this session: affordable housing, education, and ensuring no new taxes come out of the wood works. It’s also the goal of my caucus to ensure the policies we move forward this session keep our communities safe, affordable, and government is held accountable. For more information on my priorities and our agenda, please watch my recent video update. You can do so by clicking on the photo below. For further information, please keep reading this update.
It’s Your Home. Expect more.
Our values and principles are what set the foundation for how we live our lives. This session, my caucus has come up with three key principles that are in line with so many of our core values.
- You should never fear for your safety in your home and community;
- The actions of the Legislature should not increase your costs of living; and
- Your public officials should be held accountable for their actions.
There are buzz words that float around the Legislature referencing “One Washington” and “Putting People First.” However, under the one-party control in Olympia, the facts show that many parts of Washington state, including the 16th District, have become unsafe, unaffordable and accountable. It’s time we expect more.
We believe that Washington state is your home and you should expect more. You should always feel safe in your home and community. You should never have to endure constant new tax, regulatory and financial burdens that make your home unaffordable. And, you should expect the governor and the Legislature to be held accountable for their decisions, actions, and results.
